Such a pleasure to be guest reader in Llansteffan, at an event exploring how we might deepen our connection with the more-than-human world. I shared prose from Where the Seals Sing, poetry from Words the Turtle Taught Me & there was stimulating conversation, art by Romola Parish & a lively open mic.

Looking forward to sharing prose from Where the Seals Sing and poetry from Words the Turtle Taught Me at this event in Llansteffan tonight, focusing on how we might expand and deepen our relationship with the more-than-human world. #poetry #morethanhuman #creativenonfiction #naturememoir

Overlooking Aber Felin, the bay that's at the heart of my nature memoir, 'Where the Seals Sing'. Acer and I watched - and listened to the howls of - a small haul-out of pregnant cow seals. Not long now till the pupping season gets underway.

Much looking forward to sharing my commissioned sequence of eco-fable-themed poems at the final Rethinking Fables in the Age of Global Environmental Crisis conference later. It's been so inspiring to be involved in this University of Kent-based project.

Birthday joy continued with a visit to Cors Caron, the raised bog near Tregaron, to seek out the beautiful carnivorous sundews. #plantlife #carnivorousplants #wales

Thanks to all who came to Writing the Wild! Great to work with such an enthusiastic group, with everyone engaging so thoughtfully with the stunning landscape and the climate & nature emergency. Acer met me for a post-workshop walk so he wasn't too miffed at missing the earlier coastal exploration.

Off to St Davids to Write the Wild! Looking forward to meeting all the participants. I've previously run versions of this workshop in a range of wild weathers including snow (near Fort William) and torrential rain (Conrwall) so today's sun and the gentle breeze feel very benign.

I encountered quite a few beautiful creatures while doing my Writing the Wild workshop recce earlier this week - and none more stunning than this adder. #writersofbluesky

Solidarity with the Society of Authors and all my fellow writers today. Thousands of us have had our work used by Meta to train AI systems without permission or payment. Grateful to those who were protesting earlier at Meta’s London HQ.

On #WorldTheatreDay, happy memories of working as a playwright for Something Permanent Theatre Co. So honoured that Two Of Me Now, my poetic drama about Virginia Woolf & Sylvia Plath, was published by Cecil Woolf (Virginia’s nephew) in his literary/academic imprint, the Bloomsbury Heritage Series.

I love how this boy always lies close to me as I write, using his bed as a pillow and sleeping half under my chair. #dogsofbluesky #dogsky #writerslife

Spring equinox walk to 'my' seal bay, the one that features throughout 'Where the Seals Sing'. For the 1st time in 10+ years of watching, recording, writing, I failed to see a single grey seal. But the sun & gorse were out, there were celandines & violets & I heard my 1st chiffchaff of the year.

Come & Write the Wild with me in St Davids! On 9th April, I'm running a workshop focusing on the local coastal environment, exploring issues such as biodiversity loss & the climate crisis. Both poets & prose writers welcome. We'll be spending much of the time in the glorious Pembrokeshire outdoors!

I'm so enjoying being involved in this University of Kent-based project: 'Rethinking Fables in the Age of Global Environmental Crisis'. Following on from the workshop facilitation I did last year, I'm grateful to have been commissioned to write a new sequence of #poems around the project's theme.

Thanks so much for this opportunity! I'm a poet & creative nonfiction writer. My latest book is a nature memoir, 'Where the Seals Sing' (William Collins). Grateful that my most recent collection of poetry, 'Words the Turtle Taught Me', was shortlisted for the Ted Hughes Award. #WritersLiftWednesday

A joy to hear from Public Lending Right about borrowings of my books from libraries. Where the Seals Sing, both hardback and paperback, had a great year & my 2 most recent poetry collections also had a pleasing number of readers. Grateful for the payment too - each loan earns the writer 11.76p!
