Paragraph in When and Where I Enter. "In the course of my research, several themes emerged. One of them, clearly exposed through the experience of Black women, is the relationship between sexism and racism. Because both are motivated by similar economic, social, and psychological forces, it is only logical that those who sought to undermine Blacks were also the most virulent antifeminists. The means of oppression differed across race and sex lines, but the wellspring of oppression was the same. Black women understood this dynamic. White women, by and large, did not. White feminists often acquiesced to racist ideology, undermining their own cause in doing so. For just as there is a relationship between racism and sexism, there is also a connection between the advance of Blacks and that of women. The greatest gains made by women have come in the wake of strident Black demands for their rights."

Everyone will remember the "crowd size" joke. But I was a little sad that the next laugh line was a comparison to the neighbor with a leaf blower. There were few things Ronnie loved more than his leaf blower. I sure miss that incessant sound.

If you need respite, stop by the Belmont-Paul Women's Equality National Monument (former Sewall-Belmont House) right next to the Hart Senate Office Building on 2nd and Constitution. Not scary at all here.

Found inside a Shel Silverstein book on our book shelf. A love note from Ronnie to our family.

On the one year anniversary of Ronnie's death, his little tree is alive with color, giving a hint of how beautiful it may be on future anniversaries. I see you, baby, continuing to brighten up our lives.

After wondering if I could ever bear to be on an airplane again, I took 3 trips in 3 months. All were worth it, but I think I'm ready to stay grounded for awhile.
