#mathstoday Brilliant time with @vwheelhouse.bsky.social in session 1 of MEI’s TGM:Live course, discussing use of ratio tables, double number lines and bar models to support GCSE students to tackle ratio problems. Not too late to join this fantastic cohort of teachers: mei.org.uk/teaching-gcs...

Fantastic time at our first workgroup session; a brilliant group of teachers sharing pedagogical ideas and reflections about classroom practice. We started to discuss how TfM looks like in an A level setting. @ncetm.bsky.social

#Mathstoday A Year 12 student asked me today if this problem was too hard for a Year 8 student to solve. My initial thought was to draw a bar model but constructing it was not as straightforward as I initially thought. So does it help to solve it or understand the solution?

#mathstoday How many books are in a library? How would you work out an estimate? How would you start? What things would you consider? Great fun taking Y12 to Cambridge University library today.

#Mathstoday Love this TMUA question as it brings together several different mathematical skills in one neat package! I have been discussing it with colleagues today and reflecting on fluency and how to nurture it. Looking forward to Cambridge Maths Hub @ncetm.bsky.social A level pedagogy workgroup.

All four of my family did this. Working was shown even if done mentally. No calculators and no conferring! Interesting to see the similarities and differences in our methods. Can you guess which one was done by the KS3 student, the A level student, the software engineer or the maths teacher?
