I'm a very private person who avoids sharing personal information on social media. Actually, don't send me any cold-call DMs at all. I am here to gather information, examine ideas, and hopefully learn some more Gaelic. Thank you.
Anybody know what the going price is for a pardon from the Whitehouse is these days? Have they posted it on their webpage yet?

"The United States paid nothing for these shares... and, also, a great deal for INTEL."
Well, if it looks like a bribe and smells like a bribe... ?

Paid nothing for them. Well, if it looks like a bribe and smells like a bribe ...guess what?

There most certainly was a potato famine. While the British landlords were exporting the farm bounty you described, potatoes were the only food farms workers and peasantry were allowed to eat. A potato fungus blight destroyed the potato crops, resulting in massive hunger and starvation.

I wasn't aware of this. He was a special and dear person. 😢

And quit defiling the Canadian flag by putting it in all blue (look behind his head on the shelf). That's unbridled disrespect.

She revealed her tormented heart for all to weep. So sad that it finally broke irreparably and took her in the end.

Beautiful. Thank you.

Classic fascist policy in Germany and Italy (Spain too?) was to promise absolutely anything that's trending popular just to get into power, then ignore all that and do whatever you want after gaining that power. It's about getting a death-grip on power, not about responsible government.

I've heard Trump thinks a peace deal would be his ticket to a Nobel Peace Prize. Putin certainly isn't helping that.
April 24, 2025 at 4:49 PM
Does he plan to wield the 'notwithstanding clause' in this and other instances as Canada's version of Trump's Executive Orders to force his illegal agenda items on Canadians?

I'll bet Netanyahu was happy about that one. (Not.)

... I think I would be a frustration to your learning, rather than a beneficial influence at this time. Duilich.

Duilich. I lost track of this conversation. I thought it was in "Chat" but finally found it again in buried in "Notifications." That said, I've thought a lot about this. I truly am a slow learner. In my over 500 days on Duolingo, I'm still only in Unit 3 of Section 3. (Unit 3 has 63 sections.) ...

Thank you very much for the thought-provoking analysis from Unsolicited Advice. He makes many good points. I especially agree that critical thinking is an essential bulwark against parroted BS of 'skilled' sophistry.

Any guess on how many years or months before Fahrenheit 451 becomes reality? Or is it already in place?

Yes, all trade restrictions, but with key differences. Ford's surcharge would deliver funds directly into Ontario only coffers. No other province would see a penny. Funds from counter-tariffs, on the other hand, can be distributed to multiple provinces where needed. End result changes on our side.
April 5, 2025 at 3:26 AM
Ford's electricity action could not really be termed a tariff. Tariffs remain a federal action. What Ford did was place a surcharge or a levy. Different method of implementation at different levels of government, but just as devastating.
April 4, 2025 at 10:25 PM
Nope. I got that. Canada can do it. A province cannot. Doesn't mean I don't think Moe is right for not >supporting< a potash tariff. His financial advisor was and may still be Stephen Harper (our ex-PM, now creator and chair of the IDU), so that colours Moe's every decision.
April 4, 2025 at 10:21 PM
I agree with that completely. Thank you.
April 4, 2025 at 10:15 PM
True. Not with current sanctions in place.
April 4, 2025 at 4:17 PM
Uhm, the SK premier cannot declare an export tariff. That is the jurisdiction of the federal government. The US tariff is paid by US buyers not SK sellers, though it may cause reduced demand. There are other buyers out there. Also, we don't buy potash from the US, so why tariff them? Please explain.

Hmm. The request came from CBC, which Poilievre is determined to shut down. It may have put him in a bit of a tizzy trying to figure out how he could spin a response to his most hated news outlet (other than his usual attack strategy) that wouldn't rebound on him. So, silence was his best bet.
