On pen body "The John Bull Pen D.L. Screwcap" missing part A in instruction sheet, eye dropper missing bulb. Screw threads still feel good. Nib smaller on right side than left, chip?. On nib "Warranteed 14ct". Really small pen, body less than 7/16th" diameter, lid just over. No lid, lever box a bit broken, broken edge just visible inside, other end of nib section has matching broken edge too. On pen "PAT'D 1884 MAY 231899 WATERMAN'S IDEAL FOUNTAIN PEN N.Y.U.S.A. AUG 4 1903" On nib "403" and (each half-obscured) "PER GLID NEW"

Reading Ruskin's "The elements of drawing", also watching podcasts.ox.ac.uk/series/eleme...

Ruskin started writing to me (as his dear Reader) in 1857, saying that whether the book will be useful to me depends on my reason for wishing to learn to draw.
My sketchbook, open, (top left) a colourful sketch titled "Basque sunset, coloured pencil", (bottom left) me awkwardly lowering myself into an armchair while reaching under myself titled "As this exercise in shading is very tiresome" and "Considering earnestly learning to draw, step 1 sitting on a leaf", (the rest of the spread has) a squashed rose leaf, a tracing around it and a pencil outline repeatedly corrected so it is very similar to the tracing, over 5 squarish patches hatched with a very fine nib dip pen.

Today I manifested a dream #sketchbook and started using it.
Title: My dream sketchbook. In the middle, a sketch of a sketchbook and listed around it are qualities I want. My new sketchbook, very much as desired, ink and watercolour pictures of family, home, and cat, captioned "Monday 19 May, the journey starts at home.
