We stood as one, our hearts with hope aligned,
The insurrection's stain we won't forget.
A tiny blue dot in a sea of red,
Yet love for country knows no bounds, no debt.

This tradition was subsequently adopted by the Kaw, Osage, Omaha, and Lakota tribes.

The roots of powwows trace back to the Great Plains tribes, who shared songs, dances, and rituals through intertribal alliances. The Ponca tribe is credited with initiating the ceremony that evolved into the modern powwow around 1804.

The term “powwow” comes from the Algonquian word pauau, which means “any gathering of people” or “he dreams”
