There’s been some confusion about why we wear masks at protests so we made a flier to clear some things up. While many see it as history, COVID is still very much a threat, especially to people who are immunocompromised. Its important to take every measure to make sure everyone feels safe to come out to the protest so we can all show our support for the movement. Another reason is that the police have a history of surveilling innocent protestors which can halt a movement’s progress even when no crime is being committed. At some protests there are even facial recognition police vans and cameras. It may sound paranoid to some but you can never be too safe. It’s especially important to wear masks at a counter protest because the far-right have a history of identifying counter protestors, publicising their private information and attacking them. The choice to wear a mask is mostly an individual choice, its worth doing some research around protesting and about the specific protests you’re going to to know if you should wear a mask.
