Traveling alone has always been daunting for me, especially internationally. The uncertainty, the overstimulation, the anxiety—it’s something I never thought I’d have the courage to face. But knowing I was doing it for her made it feel possible.

It’s been a week, and I’m still processing everything—my first solo trip abroad, finally seeing an artist I’ve been dying to see since that botched prize at work back in 2009. It still feels surreal.
