I'm using these AI models all day long (for software development) but like you fascinated by the bigger picture. I know Deep Mind and others are working on "world models" so the LLM test hypotheses in the "world"

The crux of machine learning is description and prediction; it does not posit any causal mechanisms or physical laws. Of course, any human-style explanation is not necessarily correct; we are fallible. But this is part of what it means to think: To be right, it must be possible to be wrong. Intelligence consists not only of creative conjectures but also of creative criticism. Human-style thought is based on possible explanations and error correction, a process that gradually limits what possibilities can be rationally considered. (As Sherlock Holmes said to Dr. Watson, “When you have eliminated the impossible, whatever remains, however improbable, must be the truth.”)

We've never had more access to collective human knowledge, or more access to those who have dedicated themselves to mastering some sliver of it and are eager to share their expertise, yet despite this we have no shortage of people who have decided, when faced with mystery, not to learn from the knowledgeable, nor even to investigate the answer, but to rummage into their pocket, take out the same device that could inform them in an instant, and use it to broadcast the message I don't understand this, so it follows that nobody else does either.

Sometimes feel life stinks, everything bad/getting worse, everyone doomed. Then day like today occurs, reminding one that yes, although life stinks, does not always stink to same extent, i.e., variation can occur in extent to which life, from day to day, may stink.
