The year after a world cup, this is the year to try new players and get them bedded in if they're good enough. I think a lot of the IRFU stuff is data driven, all provinces share data and that can then be used to rank players instead of actually getting them in camp and having a look at them

Clarkson held his own last week for longer than he would have originally planned against a side that has beaten New Zealand and South Africa this year. If Furlong/Bealham are fit, they play, but we now know Clarkson can do a job if called in. That is so valuable, and it only happened due to injury

They don't need to be world class. We need guys that can come in and fit the system. They don't need to blow the roof off. Just keep the ship steady. Clarkson is a really good example.
