I know that in some states in the US raccoons are legal pets to own, so there's breeders who can selectively breed animals with better personality traits, and also likely there are vets who spay and neuter which I'm sure helps as well.

I have a pet raccoon. He's fairly docile, but he's been with me since he was maybe 3 weeks old. Even still, when he gets hyper he leads with his teeth and I know I have to wait for him to calm down before trying to pick him up.
