Another option that might work in the song is the E7 chord - 1202.

Another option that might work in the song is the E7 chord - 1202.
I can't stretch to make the E major in the normal way either. One option is to play x442. Remembering to mute the G string. It's a compromise, but might sit with the other chords you're playing better than some of the shapes higher up the neck.
