The funniest ones are the ones that actually work but definitely not for the reasons they thought they did. I can't remember any right now bc I haven't slept but they're definitely worth seeking out

The source for that claim seems to be dead links, but here's a different UK study that extrapolates from their data that if the trends continue, it would be 160-270 million prey animals overall per year
Pet cats (Felis catus) from urban boundaries use different habitats, have larger home ranges and kil...
The domestic cat (Felis catus) is a predator of global significance. In Great Britain there are ca. 9.5 million owned pet cats, with their population …

Flashbacks to when my ex from England got so offended when I said he shouldn't have outdoor cats and when he said his house was too small I had to try and find a nice way to say "you are not entitled to a cat"

Cars still exist, and also UK cats kill 55 MILLION birds a year... in the NICE estimates.

I see. Wouldn't it be better to be in a system where companies were truly managed by their employees instead of shareholders and disconnected parent bodies, though? It'd be more fair for labor, though bad for investing. But investing assumes money to invest in the 1st place, anyway...

Honestly the majority of discourse I've encountered here has been more respectful than anywhere else, too. Like either bad actors are just so terrible you get sick of entertaining them or at least someone in the conversation is being respectful, and most outbursts end with apologies. It's unsettling

Other ideologies would let you stop even if you hadn't accumulated. The fact you have to get there at all, and that you're not in control of how much you get - or at least, the majority aren't - is what capitalism does. Sorry if I seem scrambled, I'm trying to make sense of our very different views
November 18, 2023 at 9:53 AM
Interesting take. I guess I could understand it, if even saying that didn't kinda show how deep in it you are. Capitalism as an economic system doesn't properly reward labor if you're on the bottom by design, so many people *are* controlled by the system because they're never allowed to accumulate.

Retirement means you stop accumulating wealth as much though, which is very much against capitalism as an ideology. You might even end up losing wealth! Terrifying, really. Even if your investments make more wealth without you doing anything, you could make EVEN MORE if you were working...

Yes exactly! Sorry for misunderstanding, my bad

Ye, non-organized religions and such - not that you'll find a great definition online, but I mean ones without any sort of active religious leadership - where people do exchange ideas and ascribe to groupings if they choose. I think privacy would be stifling, esp if you try to define religion for it

Guy who doesn't know what capitalism is talking about the advantages of living under capitalism (they are all socialist ideas we managed to squeeze in)
November 18, 2023 at 9:27 AM
Capitalism didn't give you retirement would push for you to labor continuously, because that generates further capital (for yourself if you're lucky). Allowing people to not labor & instead take care of themselves w what they have or be supported by others is def not capitalist ideologically

Existential horror isn't an experience I've had, but I know how scary others find it. My religion is more centered around rejoicing and embracing it, but even that is a way of coping.

Not exactly a private thing in my ideal, sharing beliefs is fun. Pressure and hierarchies not so much for sure tho
November 18, 2023 at 9:20 AM
The atheists who seem to treat science as a religion tend to do it because they don't realize that's what religion does but still have the need, and shove science in its place rather than finding it for themselves. Which is bad from a science perspective because it *is* mutable & constantly changing
November 18, 2023 at 9:09 AM
Yeah if you understand how humans tend to think it's easy to understand religion. In the end it's just wanting a sense of stability and security, rules to live by, and a place in the world, all on a greater (and thus immutable) scale. Then confirmation bias & cognitive dissonance & such from there

They also usually characterize all religion as exactly the same as Christianity in structure, hierarchy, basic beliefs, and level of literalism. Having a guy argue with you about religion being terrible when they literally haven't even heard of the one you practice is pretty funny, in the awful way

While all cats are individuals, the general rule is that the only cats that usually can't adjust are fully feral ones. Strays and ex-outdoors typically do fine IF their owners provide them with proper attention & stimulation (which they should be giving anyway).

If you trigger a lot of aggression, it's better to back down rather than double down. Even the person you were joking with seems peeved by your response.

Your response here blames those who were aggressive for the misunderstanding, but you were the one who pushed. If you meant well, try rephrasing.
