@sunzoweng.bsky.social
I am Unfinished Buddhist monk.
I speak English poorly.
I make a lot of mistakes.
I would like to write down what I have learnt from my mistakes and I have felt in my life.
If you have any questions or concerns, please ask.
(I will answer what I know.)
'The Buddha's Last Words' Part 1

The Buddha passed away at the age of eighty, but before doing so, he delivered a sermon to his disciples.
The content of that sermon is straightforward and, I believe, still relevant to us today.

'Freedom'

The liberty to act as one wishes, free from constraints.
Yet, needless to say, freedom comes with responsibility and consequences (or cost).

One must accept the results of one's free actions.
Do not forget. Please take heed.

An acquaintance of mine has created a Zen calendar for next year.
I've received a few copies, so if anyone would like one, I'll gladly send it free of charge 🙂

※ Limited to 5 copies.
※ If you'd like one, please send me a direct message with your postal address.
※ It's in Japanese.

'Reflecting on Self-Sacrifice'

Our present human society is built upon countless sacrifices made in the past.
Among these were surely acts of self-sacrifice.
Moreover, I believe some acted without even recognising it as self-sacrifice.

'Each has their own circumstances'

I too have my own circumstances. Presumably, you all have your own circumstances as well.
It is inevitably difficult to perceive the circumstances of others.
They cannot possibly be absent.

We must not forget that others have circumstances just as we ourselves do

'Check your footing'

In the midst of our busy daily lives, we all occasionally overlook minor checks.
While looking ahead is important, keeping your feet firmly planted is equally vital.

Be mindful to avoid careless slips or mistakes.
In severe cases, they can lead to serious injury💧

'Let us align body and mind'

When both are united as one, full potential is realised.
It cannot be achieved by one alone.

For instance, if you practise sports reluctantly, your progress will be slow.
A mere verbal apology also struggles to convey genuine remorse to the other party.

'Small things gather to become great'

Even the smallest light, when gathered together, becomes a great radiance.
One person's strength may be small, but when many join forces, it becomes a great power.
Scattered, it cannot be achieved; united as one, it becomes possible.

'One by one'

Things have suddenly become rather hectic, and it'll be a bit of a whirlwind for a while💧

I'm feeling a bit daunted, but times like these are precisely when you just have to take things one step at a time.
I'll do my best🙂

'The Establishment of Existence'

What constitutes the existence of 'I' or 'you'?
Buddhism teaches that these are not inherently fixed, but arise through relationships.
If it were only me, I believe the distinction of 'I' would be unnecessary.
It is because 'you' exist that 'I' come into being.

'It's full of love'

We never cease to seek love.
So please remember:
Everything is already filled with love.

Love is not something consumed, increased or diminished; nor is it something that binds or compels.

Love is love🙂

'Satisfy the heart's'

Do you ever find yourself eating too much?
There are various reasons why we might consume more than necessary, even when our bodies don't require it.
One such reason, I believe, is that we are trying to satisfy our heart's.

'Farewell and Seeing Off'

My grandfather passed away, and things have been rather hectic.
He had his share of experiences, but I'm relieved we managed to hold the funeral without incident.

I believe the most important thing at a funeral is to say a proper farewell and see them off properly 🙂

'Go Beyond the Goal'

We each set goals and work hard to reach them.
Once we reach the goal safely, we will be able to see the next goal.
Because we have reached the goal, we know what the next goal is.

There is no final goal.
I believe it's something you decide for yourself🙂

'Walls and doors'

Life, as we live it, presents us with walls that block our path at various times.
And through many things, new doors may open for us.

These walls and doors are, in most cases, created by ourselves.
That is to say, whether we build the walls or tear them down is up to us.

'If you don't use it, you'll lose the ability to use it'

The other day, I had an event and got quite physically active for the first time in a while, but the next morning I was sore.
I realized that if I don't use my muscles regularly, they're gone. I've decided to use them more! 🙂

'Desire Control 2'

We inevitably find ourselves wanting more and more.
So here is one method for controlling desire.

Please remember that you already possess it.
This can help curb most desires somewhat🙂

'Words are not everything'

Words are indispensable in human society.
Yet words are not everything.
Words are merely one means or tool for understanding.

I thought I should be careful not to lose sight of the direction I should be heading by pursuing words too deeply.

'That's all'

People feel differently about the same thing.
Some think it's just that, while others consider it very important.
It's just that, yet it's important.
It's important, yet it's just that.

I thought it must be both, not just one, as one whole🙂

'Three deep breaths'

When anger erupts
When plunged into despair
When surprised
When your spirit is shaken, first try taking three slow, deep breaths.
You may not be able to reduce 100 to 0, but I believe you can bring it down to 50.
And it doesn't take all that long.

'I thought I was doing it, but...'

On a personal note, it seems I've developed a cavity...
There's no pain, but it feels odd.

I thought I was brushing properly every day, but there must have been spots I missed...

Sometimes you think you're doing something right, but you're not.

'Though the hots may rise, keep your mind calm'

The words of a monk I know left a deep impression on me.
Maintaining composure and a level head at all times is of the utmost importance.
This does not mean one should not get excited.
It means that even when excited, one must remain in control.

'There is, so it can be known'

Light and shadow
Good and bad
Woman and man
You and I
Joy and sorrow
Happiness and unhappiness
Life and death
Big and small
Sound and silence
etc.

Each of these cannot be known in isolation.
It is only because both are there that they can be known.

'Preconceived notions and self-judgments'

"shall be"
"must be"
"should be"
Everyone can become entrenched in believing that this is the correct answer based on their experience and knowledge.
Once that happens, it can be difficult to accept anything else.

'How would you cook?'

The Buddha taught the reason and truth of the world.

Now it's up to each individual to decide how to cook it.
The emptiness does not mean that you have to become a recluse.
