this is the middle near where i work, and half my family is at one end of the line and half the family is at the other. cannot stress how much this new rail tunnel is going to really simplify my getting around without needing a car. so close now. #MelbourneMornings

""In ‘Mrs Reardon at Glenrowan’ we see Margaret Reardon running from the burning Glenrowan Hotel, with her baby Bridget in her arms. The hotel was on fire because the police, believing the entire Kelly Gang to be inside, had set it on fire. They weren’t all inside the hotel, some had gone to get tools to derail the train coming from Bealla. The hotel was full of hostages and Dan Kelly was going to release them but the owner wouldn’t let him, she said “No, Ned wants to give a lecture first”. Dan did open the doors but there was a gunfight and some civilians were injured. The baby blanket was used as evidence at the Royal Commission and it had a burn hole where the bullet passed through. Neither Margaret nor her baby were injured but one of her other children, a son called Michael, was shot and injured.I showed a series of Nolan’s Ned Kelly prints in Donegal, in the Northwest of Ireland several years ago and was surprised when a friend of mine told me that she was related to the Reardons. It made me feel closer to the pictures. Sidney Nolan was a fantastic painter, and it’s often difficult to stop such gifted technique from getting in the way of a good painting. not having much luck with corn this year but i've somehow got mushrooms growing now
chilli on the left, corn in the middle, cayenne and spring onion on the right. mushrooms are growing in one of the grow bags. little mushrooms growing in one of my planter bags

how many years has it been since the construction hoarding went up? 7 maybe. and now it's down and can see the progress. the new rail tunnel is so close now. rapt to see the city square for the first time in ages. #MelbourneAfternoons
'city square' (it's a rectangle), melbourne fron flinders lane looking north west-ish. there's bollards and high viz workers and temporary fencing and the like BUT what's missing is the great big bloody fence that's been blocking this view for 7+ years now.

nostalgia hit and i did my pre 2020 walk this morning #MelbourneMornings
the intersection of swanston and grattan streets, carlton. a car, a bus, a pedestrian and traffic light poles. it's pretty quiet, i'm reflecting upon the changes in the area and in the self since i last stood here.

""The writer Max Harris recalled weekend visits to St Kilda with his friend Nolan in the early 1940s: 'In the midst of this world of black marketeers, struggling reffos, and stolid citizenry were the garish beauties of Luna Park, the desolate child at the end of a lane and the burst and spatter of Saturday night lights and laughter. It was peculiarly and secretly Nolan’s very own world and I was the tourist. It was not difficult to discover what Nolan found down at St Kilda. "In an extraordinary twist of historical fate, the Merry Go Round Sidney Nolan rode as a youth in St Kilda is now located nearby in Civic and has become a much-loved Canberra icon. In celebration of the exhibition, Queenie, one of the two elephants from the Civic Merry Go Round has taken up temporary residence in the CMAG foyer and visitors are welcome to climb into her basket and to also take a close look at her paintings and decorations which so inspired Sidney Nolan. The Merry Go Round itself was designed and built in 1915 for the enormous sum of £7,000 and its steam powered mechanism was the first of its type made in Australia. It was commissioned by German showman Anton Weinger and constructed by Herbert Thompson who was the first successful manufacturer of motor vehicles in Australia. The Merry Go Round was located at the St Kilda esplanade until 1973 when it was purchased by the ACT Government and after extensive restoration work, relocated to Civic. love my new tiny pc but it does also prompt me to once again shout out to the OG nintendo switch and what they delivered for under AUD$500 in 2017
mini pc build with a nintendo switch on top for size comparison. so many hours sunk into the switch, it's been a true mini beast and i'm still amazed by the level of performance it packs into a handheld.
