As an American expat living in Japan, I find myself constantly saying “what is happening here?”. It is usually because I’ve discovered something really cool and surprising. I don’t like saying it about watching from afar as democracy is willfully disassembled in America.

1/2 Visited the War Memorial of Korea and was moved to tears several times. I don’t remember learning much about this “forgotten war” in school. But I’ve spent a week in this beautiful country and learned from its people about all the ways they’ve been oppressed and how much they want reunification.

The people I love (including my small coalition of friends in Japan who are deeply hurt by this election) and I are taking a small break from the constant rage to recharge and live life so we can refresh and fight another day.
