Today I decided try the iPadOS 26 Public Beta to see how I feel about Liquid Glass and the new Multitasking system!

iPads are my absolute favorite computers, but the experience usually sucks for anything slightly complex. I’m hoping this new software can change that for me!

Generally, the experience was charming.

The mini-games were sometimes clever, the insights explored some really great designs details, and the writing actually has some personality at times!

This week, I finished playing the Nintendo Switch 2 Welcome Tour.

It is not so much a game, but rather a relaxing (and somewhat tedious) interactive exhibit.

Thoughts on Apple's "Liquid Glass" redesigns:

- The new material looks great and is refreshing to see.

- The Spotlight redesign looks awesome, but having it be exclusive to MacOS makes me sad.

- Text legibility looks bad right now – especially against complex images!

Another great looking neo-brutalist website I found.

This is definitely the trend for modern design tools - high contrast interface with a playful vibe.

I think what does it for me though is that the colors are softer and easier to look at, so it's not as harsh on the eyes.

I'm liking the UI designs I've seen on digital magazines and publications lately.

I think they strike a great balance between classy minimalism and cozy playfulness.

It has personality – but doesn't feel as abrasive as the trendier attempts at adding it in.

A Dark Noise alternative that I thought looked really nice.

I really like the trend of using bold, serif display fonts. It always looks cozy to me, for some reason (nostalgia?)

I found another example of a vertical navigation menu with a filter!

I really like this database-styled approach to organizing large content environments instead of a traditional hierarchy. I am curious about how difficult this is to implement...

I love the use of negative space on this website.

It feels like a calming version of neo-brutalism.

I've been exploring different search interfaces lately, and thought that the Heroicons website is a good example of a clean and responsive experience.

It's nothing fancy, but I feel that simple, unobtrusive tools are more satisfying than ones that try too hard to have a memorable personality.

I've been looking at a lot of educational websites lately, and I really appreciated how clean the Audubon website looks like.

They did a great job with making this feel both trustworthy/authoritative and enthusiastic about its subject. I think it was the search filters that do it for me.

I found this awesome looking UI for an online magazine today.

It has a lot of personality for a relatively simple interface. I also really like their implementation of the article progress bar – the idea to include markers that indicate where the headers are is fantastic.

A navigation bar that uses an index/database structure in addition to a very minimal hierarchy.

I have never seen a website do this before, but I think it works really well - at least on mobile. The alphabetized list is easy to scan through, and the search tool is responsive.

A website for finding art pieces.

I like this design because it accommodates many different search behaviors: Known-item seeking, browsing, favoriting & bookmarking, etc.

A funny little site I found that charts out every single curse word.

The UI is surprisingly delightful and a great example of interaction design.

An elegant looking recipe website that reminds me of a printed magazine or newspaper.

Although not the first to use this aesthetic, what really stands out about this design is its page layout – especially the decision to center the search bar in the nav.

It gives it a quirky, charming character.

Fun website I found today!

Someone created a service for booking tarot card readers that basically has the Gumroad UI.

The church-window styled hero images is a really nice touch though. It's like a pop version of dark academia.

Spotted a lot of designs that look like this lately.

High contrast with a bold accent color. Simple or minimalist UI elements. An emphasis on typography for playfulness.

A really cool take on neo-brutalism I found.
I like it when the interface looks like a tool or a technical document of some sort, and this place does it in a very clean and playful way.

(Although, I am not a fan of the header navigation. It prioritizes aesthetics over functionality too much!)

Lovely looking website I stumbled across today!

The softer colors and the paper-like design elements give this a lot of charm. Like, this feels warm, relaxing, empathetic, etc.

I also like how the help box has a subtle outline so that it’s distinctive but not in your face.

Changelog for Loop

I was really delighted by this interface. The newspaper motif is clever, and categorizing the updates into collapsible sections makes it easier to scan through.
