Words reached Dimitri’s ears: “Don’t take my word for it, but our spies say he’s been spotted near the Sealed Forest.” His eyes widened — he instantly knew who this was about. Lady Rhea must’ve made the Knights of Seiros investigate Byleth’s disappearance, given the fact that she stationed guards by his quarters after what happened. He got quiet, focusing his mind to effectively eavesdrop on these knights. “Rhea worries too much over this new professor. People disappear all the time here, take that one Monica girl, for example,” the other knight said as she received her portion of porridge from the now very vexed staff. “I can’t blame her for worrying, though,” the first knight said and shook his head. “Remember what happened after Monica returned? After Tomas returned? What if the professor also doesn’t return the same?” The dining hall fell dead silent.

Wip wthursday with "what if Byleth was enlightened slightly earlier in the story and in different circumstances". Time loops and mdimileth may or may not be involved <3 Chapter 1 is almost done!
Soon enough, upon waking up, Dimitri’s head was ringing and hurt even more than usual. By his side his blurry vision spotted Dedue and, to no surprise, Byleth…who now had bright green hair and eyes. “Ah--” Dimitri gasped as soon as memories from last night came back. Of course Byleth would haunt him, but…why the change in colors? “It’s OK, Dimitri. I’m alive,” Byleth said with a smile and slowly his hand on Dimitri’s shoulder — it was warm, and felt incredibly real, soothing. “Dedue…” Dimitri shook his head. “Can you see him as well?” “Yes, Your Highness. He was injured, but he is alive. No need to worry,” Dedue said with a curt nod. “But, Professor…” “My hair and eye colors were the price I had to pay for surviving this,” Byleth cut in a flat voice, though a slight smile was present on his face; he appeared incredibly worn out, but that was no surprise. Jeralt — Byleth’s father — was just murdered by one of those impostors very recently. It must’ve been taking a toll on him; and it was no surprise they went for Byleth himself next. Or tried to.

Spent today practicing pre-Gronder AM lethdimi vibes in writing...I am so rusty but I am trying so hard here. Knowing how fast I am with working on my stuff maybe a year or two later this will be a finished fic with 3-6k words or something 🫠
The training lance creaked, its pitiful cry echoing across the Garreg Mach training grounds, as it snapped in half as soon as Dimitri hit the training dummy with it. Casting away the remains of the broken weapon, Dimitri stared at the ground. He still couldn’t believe Byleth was alive, though it has been a few months now. He appeared before Dimitri, like any other ghost would, out of nowhere. And yet, the warmth emitting from him, the words he spoke… None of the ghosts haunting him would ever be so… Growling, Dimitri grabbed a steel lance — surely, this one wouldn’t break, — and lunged at the training dummy. During sleepless nights like these, he trained. It was wearing him down, but at least it distracted him from what scared him the most — his own self. The steel lance clanked against the training dummy, and the dummy’s head was flung to the side. Right to where someone stood. That someone’s turquoise hair reflected the moonlight. “It’s you,” Dimitri’s voice rumbled akin to thunder before the storm. “How long have you been watching?” “Long enough,” Byleth’s voice was quiet, reserved. The slight smile crossing Byleth’s lips drove Dimitri mad, so he looked away. The same smile he called “mesmerizing” all those years ago… Truth was, it had always made him sick to his stomach, that smile. Victory in that battle during the Academy meant nothing now, just as much as it did back then. “Well then, do you find it entertaining?” Dimitri flashed a bitter smile at Byleth, then turned back to the training dummy. “Watching me fight… I’ve seen the way you look at me on the battlefield.” “You should go to your quarters and rest, for once, Dimitri,” Byleth said with exasperation. “We’re setting off tomorrow.” Byleth pursed his lips, then; he wanted to say something else. Dimitri assumed that perhaps it’s something about everyone caring about him. Byleth did good to realize that it didn’t matter. “I am not going,” Dimitri spat; another lunge, and his lance went right through the dummy’s canvas body, through it’s bloodless flesh made of hay, and hit the wall behind it with a loud clank.
