I should mention that once he starts using his foot, you slowly add duration of the scratching before he gets a treat. Once he gets the hang of it he’ll be so excited to use it that all you’ll have to do is set it down and he’ll get to work earning his treat.

One he gets it with one foot you can then teach him to use the other front foot. Then the back feet. But that’s a slightly different process. Not sure you want me filling up your feed. Feel free to message me or if you want I can post the rest here. Good luck! He’s so cute, just like his sister!

Once it’s closed enough where he can’t get his nose in there to open it, he’ll most likely use his foot. When he does give it a cue (“scratch” or whatever you want), then a happy “YES,” then open the door and let him get the treat.

I’m a trainer. There are two ways I do it. I’ll give you the most common way. Put the treat inside the little sliding door but leave the door open. Let him eat the treat. Do it several times. Keep adding treats, but slowly close the door a bit more each time time.
