The Mecha Hack is a strong contender. I also learned that Fabula Ultima has a techno-fantasy setting book with light mech mechanics from what I understand. That game does away with range entirely.

The average human can see 3miles/5km away. In elevation like a mech, that roughly doubles or triples your visual range depending on how tall the mech is.

Spaces and Size in Lancer are already SUPER abstract, so you don't need to do much heavy lifting when determining distance.

The rough range scale I used was:
1 Spaces is Melee
10 Spaces is common medium range distance.
20 Spaces is kilometres away/sniper rifle range.
25+ You're pretty much hitting a ship in orbit with the apocalypse rail if you're firing from the ground.

Remember, players just want to know two main things in combat:
1.) How close/far is the enemy from them?
2.) Are they close enough to do something cool as hell?

I genuinely got in so much practice working that job. Imagine a dusty podunk liquor store, boomer rock from the 60's and 70's, and dumb hypothetical questions being asked back and forth. I felt my art improving with each doodle between customers.

Their designs changed so drastically as I drew them over and over again to commit every detail of their design to memory. If it didn't feel good to draw, I changed and element until the design was the most natural path my hands could take. I still draw these goobers when I have an art block.

Otto Slippsby, but everyone just calls him "Tallboy". He's a freakishly tall fish alien. He's worked more jobs than anyone else, doesn't speak or sleep, and only communicates in uncomfortable silences and heavy breathing. He's a mechanic and the dad friend making sure the other two don't die.

This one is of Andy Horizon-1, an android from a crashed ship suffering memory loss. He's named after the slang for Androids ("Andies") and also the name of the ship he crash landed in, ("Horizon-1").

I have five years worth of art just collecting dust involving these works, and it doesn't make sense for them to rot on various old devices. So for this month, I'm releasing every nugget of art I have saved up! Good and bad!

The other is Cosmic Roadtrip, which is near and dear to my heart. It was a webtoon I tried to make before the pandemic about a space pirate, a freakishly tall alien, and an android with memory loss finding a map to the fabled planet of gold, Earth, and decide to take a road trip to find it.

There are two projects. One is Mageball, a fantasy fantasy baseball game where you manage a bunch of wizards on a baseball team as an elditch entity. It was supposed to be a boardgame (I got super obsessed with blaseball during the pandemic). I still have all my old art for it.

Working retail is grinding me to dust and, honestly? I think it's about time I start throwing my art and characters out into the aether. I wanna make games, comics, animations. So starting today, be prepared to see a lot of my art. Most of it non-mecha related, but a piece of me.
