Apple cranberry crisp with brandied cream custard. I had forgotten to put out butter to thaw, so decided the best way to dot the topping was to shred the butter and found it makes it much easier to distribute evenly. Necessity breeds invention. 💡

Perfect night for warm apple crisp.

Hillbilly Marmalade. Oranges, lemon, Madagascar vanilla paste, sugar, and good ole Kentucky bourbon.

SPICY Nigerian Chicken Stew with Fufu- Tasty tender chicken and rich flavorful broth. Pre-cooking the chicken in a bath of ginger, garlic, and onion before frying and stewing gives the chicken depth and keeps it juicy. Warms you up and cleans your sinuses. 🤣 #wintercooking

It's a perfect day to bake. A huge sheet of Scottish shortbread is in the oven. Couldn't find the box with my baking molds. Still have boxes from the move to put away. 🙄 Some of these will get dipped in a whiskey infused dark chocolate.

17° and lite dusting of snow. Good day for projects around the house. Butter chicken with drumsticks ready for a slow simmer. Wonderful Indian spices filling up the house. Basmati rice and homemade naan. Great Saturday meal. The kheer for dessert is chilling in the fridge.

The birds were patiently waiting in the bushes for me this morning. A beautiful cardinal joined them for breakfast.

New Year meal is a bit like the show Chopped. Incorporating as many of the NY "lucky foods" in a dish that I can. So, it's White Beans and Tuscan Kale with smoked bacon over Italian herb and Parmesan polenta. Going to slip in black eyed peas with the cannelini beans and some cabbage with the kale.

Ina Garten's slow roasted spiced pork roast for tonight. Marinade paste is on. Smells fantastic. Now it's on to jarring more Drunken Cranberries.

I couldn't find kitchen valances that I liked or the type of fabric I wanted to make some. So, I ordered some of my favorite extra large all cotton tea towels in charcoal and white and sewed them into a farmhouse styled valance. Time to get the steamer out and shape them.

Freezing rain. Streets are riddled with accidents. Great night to stay in, have a bowl of shortrib stew with crusty bread, a cocktail, and some British crime dramas.

Got this tray table over 20 years ago. It was white with a mirrored tray insert. Found it in the basement when I moved. Repainted it a linen white and replaced the mirror with a marble tile. Works great as side table in the living room.
