So my nickname was Sunny before I read the series and I was like ‘Oh my gosh, stop. Why is this character kinda like me’😂 so freaky but I love her anyway. Little underestimated golden girl :3
So Sunny is half-NightWing so of course I had to add some of that to her design! The trick with Sunny is making her so golden she looks different from other SandWings so I used the brightest yellow and contrasted it with a golden-brown orange and a highlighter white yellow. Then of course, adding lots of black freckles for her NightWing genes and made her wings a dark brown with darker star shapes in it. Her eyes are green with grey-green whites to make them darker like a SandWing’s.

Ok, I feel so bad for Starflight. Unlike the other dragonets, his egg was given willingly which set him apart. Not to mention how awful his tribe was to him. And then he saves them only to be blinded. Poor Starflight.
So NightWings are just “black dragons” and they wouldn’t have a lot of colour. NO. It’s all about the undertones here! :D Starflight has purple undertones and because he was born on the brightest night, if his egg hatched under the moons he would’ve had mind-reading AND foresight plus extra strength. So like Moon he has a tear-drop mark and a smaller circle next to his eye but instead of being silver it’s a dark, purple-black to signify that he wasn’t hatched under moonlight. His eyes are a more bluey dark green and his spines along his back are like half moons.

Glory has to be my favourite dragonet of destiny. As a RainWing stand in for the lost SkyWing egg, she’s trained herself not to care about much only to find she cares more than she realised.
Honestly if I wanted, I could keep talking about Glory’s character, but I won’t 😅 so now we move on to the design! I used a somewhat muted green for her base in reference to how her tribe first reacted when they met her. Then I used a nice dark, royal blue and contrasting sky blue for her spine head and wings with pops of red, orange and yellow for that temper of hers. Then I used the same red, orange and yellow for her ruff and wings. Her tail and paws are orange at the tips and blend up her legs and tail with yellow and yellow-green colour so they felt almost like a gradient. Finally her eyes are a pink colour because under all that sarcasm is a dragon who cares deeply for others. Enough to become Queen of her tribe to save the missing RainWings. All hail, Queen Glory!! :D Also a design note for RainWings! I like to make their eyelashes leaf-shaped in honour of the rainforest and have their fangs stick out. It make them adorably deadly looking which fits well with their tribe. Anyway wow, lots of colours and stuff I talked about 😂

I love Tsunami, she’s fierce and brave and hilariously bossy. Although he book isn’t my favourite from the first arc, it’s definitely excellent in giving us a better perspective of Tsunami’s character.
For Tsunami, I was looking for the bluest colours I could find. I wanted her to be a really dark blue throughout with hints of lighter, aqua blue for contrast. I also gave her webbed eyelashes to really highlight her eyes electric green eyes and because I think it looks cool 😅

I loved Clay’s book and I thought it was an excellent start for the series. Clay is so sweet and adorable and I absolutely love his relationship with Peril. They are so cute. 💕
I used a lot of pinkish browns for Clay and used warm yellows for contrast. If I redesigned him again though I’d like to make his base colour a more amber-y orange so that his colour pop and contrast more.
