I should appreciate Soul Calibur 2 for what it was, and pining for more will only serve to limit my horizons and ultimately destroy me. Bamco won't give me Soul Calibur 2 again, and that's ok. Cause I don't have to give them my money. I can let go.

ain't nothing. But this convo made me realize that damn, Buddha was right. Desire really do be the root of all anguish. It's not that I need a new Soul Calibur 2 but rather, my unwillingness to let go of Soul Calibur 2 has caused me to be disappointed in all Soul Caliburs since. Now I see.

Disingenuous? I'm agreeing with you for the most part. All i'm saying is your bummer-ass story was a lesson for me to not expect companies to act in good faith just cause they made something i liked ages ago. I don't have to support SNK's dumb Saudi marketing scheme just cause MOTW was good.

Huh. Well I guess that's the lesson I'll take away from your perspective on this whole thing. Instead of waiting on Thing I Like 2, maybe I'd be better served just moving on/broadening my horizons and not putting companies on a pedestal just cause they made Thing I Like 1. Thanks.

I'm honestly surprised you expected Garou to get a sequel for that long, especially during the Playmore era of SNK. Like come on you had to figure it was probably over over during that 10+ year span

I think that's good! it makes CvS feel really special, like worlds were colliding. Hell even SvC Chaos eked out such a unique tone to put both franchise's characters in that game. same thing with Match of the Millenium and Card Fighters Clash

that's kinda what's bothering me too. It's been 25 years since the OG game, and we finally get to see the next chapter in the story of South Town, but also Ken and Chun are here too..? something about that really cheapens it to me. at least with Terry and Mai in SF6 we had more games beforehand
April 15, 2025 at 4:54 PM
I'm not saying you're wrong, I just feel like the current landscape of long-running franchise fighting games feels far removed from that at this point is all
April 15, 2025 at 4:47 PM
and looking back at how hard you went to bat for SNK initially against randoms on bluesky whining about the roster, idk man. vibes are just off for me, even as a fellow New Englander. much love tho.
April 15, 2025 at 4:44 PM
See, but I think what you're saying really bothers me with the idea that SF and Garou are "siblings" because they share dev/director crossover and cultural impact. I really don't get that vibe from Ken and Chun being in COTW. it doesn't feel like a family reunion imo, it's corporate cross-promotion
April 15, 2025 at 4:41 PM
I guess... but I still think "crossover culture" has gotten to the point where we almost expect fighting games to have guest characters now. I think people complaining about the glut of them in recent memory (real-world or otherwise) is totally fair
April 15, 2025 at 4:33 PM
I for sure agree with you there my guy! Idk, the whole Ronaldo situation feels like what happens when crossover stuff gets out of hand. and that being said, I do remember you going on a tear towards randos who were complaining about guest characters initially
