Energy nerd. Parent.
1) people in Boulder are drinking craft beer, not Chardonnay.
2) Solar is less expensive than coal. So pushing coal is likely to drive up electricity prices even faster.

We need to let Congress know what is at stake. Learn more and take action at the link below. Take action yourself and also tell your friends, family, colleagues, and business partners to do the same.

What's more, this bill would derail most of our new expected electricity supply over the next 5 years. That puts other new factories, housing development and the AI race at risk. These all need electricity, and we just won't have enough if this draft bill becomes law.

FWIW, EVs use their brakes far less than ICE vehicles. There is even a renewed interest in drum brakes for EVs for this reason. Drum brake pads are sealed inside the drum which helps reduce maintenance and would seal in some dust.

It's worth noting that all the nuclear capacity added there was from the two new units at Vogtle, an existing plant. And they took a looong time to develop. But solar, batteries and wind are pretty fast to develop.

We need solar and batteries to meet growing electricity demand. Solar is more than twice as fast to build as natural gas combined cycle, four times faster than coal and 10 times faster than nuclear.

Funny enough though, having rooftop solar+battery is probably the best way to mitigate the impact of an outage for your own home.

These parts are pretty important too:
“We need electrons right now and we need to unleash the American energy industry and achieve energy dominance,” Ketchum said....

...Ketchum also warned that new gas generation wouldn’t be available in large amounts until 2030.

We need more transmission regardless of the type of generation we use. More transmission capacity makes better use of any generation capacity and allows more flexibility to interconnect new loads, which we need for efficient economic growth.

Sort of curious how they plan on correcting data entry errors now.
