Yep, it was like 'I've spent a tenner on this, I'm gonna bloomin' well listen to it whether I like it or not!'. That being said, a lot of my favourite music hasn't been 'first listen' music - forcing it to sink in was good in a lot of cases, which you just wouldn't do nowadays.

Yep, I can clearly remember getting laughed at by the till guy when buying Metallica's black album on cassette as a 15 year old - some 30+ years later this still bothers me, haha!
