Sad, even shocking, news for those who follow the lower divisions: the very popular gyoji, Shikimori Kazenosuke, is no longer on the JSA's employees list. The circumstances are as yet unclear.

In the banzuke meeting held earlier today, 5 rikishi were promoted from Makushita to Juryo (the rest of the banzuke will be revealed Sept. 1):
Takasago beya: Asanoyama, Asahakuryu, Asasuiryu (Morning Green Dragon, formerly Ishizaki).
Oshima beya: Kyokukaiyu.
Sakaigawa beya: Nishinoryu.

Yes, this "Fuji" (藤) means "wisteria", not Mount Fuji.
