I knew Faulkner was great when I read "The Sound and the Fury" and thought, "This is the kind of book I really would normally not like, and I found it a bit taxing to read. And even having read it, I still don't understand it much. And through all that, I thought it was pretty effing fantastic."

On one ✋: Even if Guhle gets you a better fwd, I think FLA proves you need a Guhle more than a Matheson for playoffs. Prob more value than difference between fwds you'd get in trade
Other ✋: Guhle hasn't shown he can stay healthy. If you trade MM and then Guhle gets hurt, there's no depth

sub-$5M in a rising cap world will be average 3rd/good 4th line money in 3-4 years. No way this deal looks anything but good, IMO (and I'm a Habs fan)

Agreed! They'd be good 2C/3C complements. Maybe not good enough for a championship team but I don't think that's our realistic ambition for next year. This setup would work well for a presumably low cost

My question for a 2C: if (semi-big "if") Vegas will sign Marner but need to make some cap room, what is Karlsson's trade value? Is it a lot or minimal? Almost negative? I have no idea. If Habs have to give up little (B prospect & pick?), I can see them doing that and worrying about salary in a year

Thanks for that info! Really interesting. Looking forward to hearing the answer to your question. As an owner, I probably wouldn't let a dead man walking influence my draft picks, but I believe in Masai's integrity, so I could see why they would in his case.

Yeah, I keep thinking the Habs won't find their 2C either way and are more likely to find a play-driving winger as UFA to help Dach in his 2C role.
That said, they probably can't afford that UFA and Dobson from a $$ standpoint instead of asset standpoint, so who knows?! Will be exciting!

I wonder if there was a disagreement with Rogers at the draft about something, e.g. Rogers not signing off of $$$ for a player Masai wanted. Feels like the draft might have been a source of friction, which would explain the timing better

Acknowledging that you say your move (well, all 9) aren't likely, but I think the reason I can't see Guhle go is he's the one dman we have that seems mean enough to play playoff hockey while still good enough to earn top 4 minutes. Andersson addresses some of that but I think KG does it better

Yeah, I don't know prospects well so wasn't sure if the guys likely available at 10 are worth it this year or not, though I had the hunch they would be. Maybe Mrtka, if we was available? A guy like that seems like more of a needle-mover than the guys we'd pick at 16 & 17, but again, I'm no expert!

HOF process is inherently dumb. Players either deserve to be in or not; it should have nothing to do with there being a set # of inductees every year. E.g. We all know Price will get in, right? So why wait until a boner year with less sure-thing inductees?

I like the player but I agree his size likely makes him a no-go for the Habs. I'm also not sure the Stars re-sign Benn unless it's on an absolute sweetheart deal
