Spend all day underground in an old mine and my favorite picture of the day is some mold growing on an old piece of wood😂. Guess I'm a bad #geologist. To the #biology folks, any idea what this stuff is?
Found some really nest massive sulfide veins as well.

Thanks for the quick responses. Gypsum makes sense I think. We saw some more cubic minerals of the same color later in the same mine adit. Probs all Gypsum.

To the mineralogy crowd out there. Does anyone know what this asbestiform mineral growing underground in a relatively modern (1920ish) gold mine? The surface it was growing on was a shear surface on a sulfide containing gneiss.

Back in the Tauern this week with the our Geo Survey to measure sizes of mine waste dumps with geophysics.
A difficult but essential task if we want to get an estimate of the resources we have.
This week we are measuring a few test case where the know the tonnages from old mining docs.

Day two of the #MUL geo mapping course in the bag. Gorgeous views and excited students! Even got above the snow line for a bit, but even in the Alps you have to deal with traffic at the end of the day! =)

First day of the Montanuniverstät Leoben field mapping course. Lovely crisp fall day. Even got the first dusting of snow up high last. Fun time and good students!
