I have seen one of these in my local National Trust property,where it's displayed and described as a Trap Gun, an anti-poaching device. Fascinating to learn they can also be used as a grave-robbing deterrent!

Most of the people who vowed to leave there and set up a new Utopia here appear to have drifted back, either completely or with a foot in both camps. Familiarity and ease of use, I guess.
