The #Kremlin announces Putin’s talks with Syrian President al-Sharaa, visiting #Russia. Though system inertia is vast, I had hoped #Syria was moving toward "white nations." I was clearly wrong: the very contemplation of retaining a Russian military base is utterly repugnant.

Fifty-eight years ago today (10. X 1967), the Outer Space Treaty entered into force. Its fundamental principle remains that #space shall be the 'province of all mankind,' committed to #peaceful purposes and explicitly prohibiting the stationing of nuclear weapons.

"The price of anything is the amount of life you exchange for it."

The current cost of a non- #Linux desktop is simply too high. Bye-bye #Microsoft's corporate arrogance!

An urge to reject the diagnoses of common stupidity, shadowy conspiracy, or simple ego-driven cruelty, though admirable, creates a severe explanatory deficit. Without recourse to these easy narratives, the actions of some national leaders remain logically unintelligible.

I did not expect to witness such intellectual failure here in Europe. And yet...

I believe a multitude of large, affluent states ought to emulate the exemplary commitment of Denmark. Fundamentally, all of Europe must substantially increase its contribution, as Kyiv’s tenacious defense currently constitutes the forward bulwark of our collective security.

Trump can say that #Ukraine will not become a member of #NATO, and that may be true as long as he is president, but fortunately (as we know) US presidents' promises end with elections. He has no right to say anything about Crimea unless he wants to openly help the Russians!

Trump has promised taxes, tariffs, sanctions, etc. to the Russians on:

- January 22
- March 7
- July 14
- July 28.

One deadline after another has passed without consequences. If he has the right to make promises on behalf of the country, can the promises of the America be trusted at all?

To illustrate the topic: aid to Ukraine from different countries as a percentage of GDP, data from the Kiel Institute for The World Economy. But in principle, it's great that SAMP/T and Aster production is developing...

It seems to me that Italy could play a bigger role! Here is data from the Kiel Institute on which country has contributed what percentage of its GDP to support Ukraine since the start of the full-scale Russian invasion.

Ukraine needs help to defend itself and we can demand from our governments that Ukraine receive more support! For illustration, here is a table from the Kiel Institute showing which country has spent what percentage of its GDP on aid to Ukraine since the start of the war.

Trump's claim Russia wouldn't've attacked Ukraine under his presidency makes one wonder: unwillingness to face reality, a deceptive claim (with unstated reasons), or sheer folly? Rejecting anthropogenic climate catastrophe shows similar patterns, yet that requires profound idiocy. Is he... ?

The world would be a better place if more common sense were brought to US politics, but is that really what Republicans want?
