"we have a fairly backward audience here, in spite of the film society movement and all that, if you consider the audience at large, it is a backward audience." so no-brainer massy blockbuster hits are currency in the film scene here. it's more commerce than art, really, it being a spectrum.

bollywood as an industry has no stories to tell anymore- they depend on the formulaic pattern that worked for previous projects. the problem is that the audience on a broad scale has historically been inept at understanding genuinely good art, like satyajit ray in 1989-
