Absolutely! People have been listening to stories for thousands of years. And reading stories to a child is the sweetest way to pass on a love of books.

Studying archaeology in Ireland sounds like the trip of a lifetime. I was a student there in the last millennium and loved it. I’m sure you will, too! Enjoy!

Great suggestion, thanks. (Sorry I didn’t reply sooner.) I’m also looking into the Lenfest Institute, which funds the Philadelphia inquirer.

Oh, I hope not! You’re the best museum on Bluesky! I suspect the 25% tariff backfired, yes?

Wow, I didn’t realize I had a choice! (You can tell I’m not a linguist.) But I understand exactly what you mean. How bout we ask the kid? Or better yet, let’s ask the make-believe baby.

We visited the Museum of Printing on a whim a couple of years ago while passing thru Haverhill. Very cool! I recommend a visit!

Welcome to Philadelphia and congratulations to your niece - from a fellow Temple grad. Philly is a wonderful, lively, down-to-earth city, full of history and culture. I love this town!

I’ve been to the PMA many times, it is a true Philly gem. Also a short walk to the Rodin Museum and the fabulous Barnes Museum.

I love audiobooks! I drive out of the parking lot after work with my head full of unfinished tasks and worries, and start listening to Charles Dickens as performed by an excellent reader, and when I arrive home 1/2 hour later, the job anxiety has completely vanished into 19th-century London.

Thanks, this explanation was very helpful to a non-linguist like me, especially the “common misperceptions”. There is so much complexity and nuance in human language, and yet it is literally child’s play to learn. (“I had no idea I’ve been speaking prose all my life!”)
