In 1982, Intensive Care was formally recognized as a specialty in New Zealand! That same year, the Faculty of Anaesthetists invited ANZICS to join the Standards Committee to develop the ‘Minimum Standards for Intensive Care’.

A huge milestone on our journey to excellence!

In 1978, ANZICS joined forces with organisations from the USA, UK, France, Switzerland, Mexico, and Israel to discuss the formation of the World Federation of Societies of Intensive and Critical Care Medicine. 🌍

In 1977 ANZICS begins publishing regular newsletters to members in its quest to connect the intensive care community. In 1995, the newsletter became ‘The ANZICS Intensivist’, which today, continues to inform members with news, events and stories from across the sector.

In 1976, ANZICS, RACS, and Critical Care Nurses came together to host Australasia’s first multi-disciplinary Intensive Care meeting. Fast forward to today, and the ANZICS ACCCN ASM is internationally recognized as one of the premier intensive care conferences in the world!
