Cell biologist trying my best to support social justice
I did find the questions particularly guiding a certain response. I basically kept saying their criteria was hard to quantify or prove, ie. contributing/ volunteering - how do you prove that if it is not through an organisation? So if you help your neighbours, how do you prove it?

Me too. Even though my appearance is "acceptable" for the racists behind the anti-migrant rhetoric.

Labs could easily function without PhD students. There are a lot of researchers looking for jobs. They could be hired. 🤷🏼‍♀️ Just a thought.

The people here are having difficulties finding science research jobs. There are very few research posts being advertised right now.

If they can afford to, if they want to give up their other citizenship (some countries don't allow for dual citizenship).

I think it depends on the polls - but the ones I have seen is Reform is gaining from Labour.

Labour had swept out many SNP in WM. The only threat to the SNP right now is Reform (eek!) for Holyrood in next year's election.

Starmer is wrong - it is a privilege to be born here. It isn't a privilege to CHOOSE to live here. It is a choice that should be welcomed in a tolerant, fair society.

So true. We all have value because of who we are. Plain and simple.

Ms Lukes, you are missing the POINT. I just heard that Labour now wants proof that immigrants are "contributing" to society. Can you prove you contribute to society? Labour leaders are contributing to the negative tone towards migrants. They ape the Reform message that migrants are bad.

I like to know how this is a POSITIVE change from a Conservative government.

All the argument "Reform will be worse" sounds like to a lot of migrants, trans and non-binary individuals, disabled people etc, not all but many, is "my life will be worse and you are just collateral damage to ensure I don't have to face what you face now". That's not a vote winning message. 23/

The data guy in the FT did an analysis of income, careers, wealth.

For the most part, the US & UK haven't seen an increase in income/wealth inequality between the low and the high incomes. But the divide between middle and high is widening. Partly due to stagnant wages on middle class careers.

How come the season tickets are going to increase at the end of September? That will hurt the commuter. Commuters don't use the train once a week or randomly which this does. Don't get me wrong - it is nice to not have to figure out if a service is peak or not.

This. Maybe not deport them, but they are the threat to communities.

On the 28th of September, for me, on Scotrail, my monthly ticket will go UP £33. It will still be cheaper than the everyday price but not by much. This will be the second time this year the train ticket price went up.
