I don't know what happened with Kiffin, but seeing his name just reminds me I really don't like him. Like, as a human. I don't remember why anymore because I have been unplugged from college football for several years now. The coaching shenanigans is part of why I checked out, I think.

And it's why having career civil servants helping to actually build the systems – teams like @alt18f.bsky.social – is important, because those civil servants understand the complexity inherent in government systems and don't try to run roughshod over it.

If I may bandwagon, government systems are complex and have a lot of interdependencies. It takes time to understand how they all fit together. This is one of the reasons having career civil servants running the program is important.

I remember reading about how identity papers in some places include ethnic group or religion and thinking "huh the only reason to do that would be to make it easier to discriminate" and then realizing the same thing applies to gender markers.

Democrats have played to "win" for entirely too long, but the Democratic base doesn't *care* about winning – it cares about a better society. Thus when candidates emerge touting a better society and endorsing each other because "winning" isn't the point, people notice. And they vote.
