It would be remiss of me not to add that The Art and Science of Teaching Primary Reading has since been superseded by a much more useful book, Primary Reading Simplified.

While this might be the last significant amount, I will ensure that all royalties continue to be donated.

Below is the receipt for this year's donation.

If you've read Primary Reading Simplified and found it useful, it would mean a lot to me if you would consider taking 60 seconds to add a rating or review at the place where you bought it. It's a little thing that makes a huge difference. Reposts are also much appreciated.

That's really kind of you to recommend my first book. However, while I am still proud of it, I think that my second book, Primary Reading Simplified, is a significant upgrade on the original for the purpose described in the first tweet in this thread.

For example, here is a paper that literally looks at the learning of science content. It compares RwL to just listening and finds *benefits* to RwL:

For example, Moreno and Mayer (2002) find evidence of the *opposite* of this effect in reading and listening simultaneously (i.e. comprehension was *improved* when people followed along with a text read aloud):

My new book, Primary Reading Simplified, is released this Monday.

Briefly, I'd like to explain why it exists, who I think will find it useful and where you can find it.

To be clear, the Delphi statements do not state that phonological issues *must* be present. The relevant Delphi statement states that phonological processing is the most *commonly observed* cognitive issue, not that phonological processing is a cognitive issue always found:

Below is the definition used by the International Dyslexia Association. While there is no universally accepted definition of dyslexia, this definition is as close as exists to such a thing:

However, there are issues with asking teachers to regularly use their professional development time to read children's books.

Most primary teachers are given surprisingly little time in school to develop their pedagogy and subject knowledge, as suggested by this (admittedly unscientific) poll:
