I didn't mind this film at all, even though, like all film adaptations, it departs a bit from the book.

I think if you hadn't read the film it might not do much for you, but if you have it's a nice companion piece of media.

In the end, Murakami is un-filmable, which is partly his strength

I didn't realise the version I read was abridged. How much longer is this?

Also, I get the feeling his new novel (which I don't have yet) largely
revisits much of this material anyway, sans the 'Hard Boiled' element (which was what attracted me to it back in the day.)
