just look how tiny she is as she still so calm saying “answer the question”..she reacts when he reacts, and even after that she gets calm again..i think she’s trying to understand why she hurting (bc she cries so easily in this moment..they’re like bottled up emotions)

akane is taking this whole scene in, from the time ranma’s trying to kiss ass & hearing shampoo say “again”..her mind is elsewhere distracted& it’s one of those moments where she has to acknowledge the pang at her chest..she just looks at him and he’s not expecting THAT

this whole chapter (or arc) is one of my all time favorite but the way akane looks as she asks so simply, & calmly trying to organize her thoughts, “did you kiss her” bc i think she recognizes that kissing is such a vulnerable thing for ranma especially, but for her too

and it's not that i condone violence, but that slap was kind of like an awakening for him to realize that THIS was different..it was akane "fighting" for someone else..he needed a dose of reality in his own way to help him consider his options, and there was only one: her

this is akane choosing someone else..it really makes him consider everything beyond just being "jealous"...he never considered the possibility of losing her, you know?

it serves a bigger purpose than akane JUST slapping him for the sake of slapping him..if this (the slap) was part of their dynamic and comic relief, it would have played out after akane TRIES to bring him back with "hit me back", but this isn't like those times..

the slap may seem like an overreaction, but at that moment she was worried about shinno DYING..but it's also used to put their relationship into perspective..up until this point he was completely sure that akane wouldn't choose anyone over him, and now here we are..
