nobaraproject.org its different enough that you can't exactly always follow fedora troubleshooting but it has a newbie friendly discord and ppl are generally nice , .. its got alot of stuff pre-configured and installed for gaming so i recomend it ... arch-based cachyos also tends to be recomended

i've actually not used anything debian-based but my newbie understanding is generally debian and its derivative are more out of date for stablity purposes while fedora is alot more up to date but more stable than arch based. if you game i've been super happy with nobara kde since i switched

yeah thats fair ,.. i just don't think blanket statements about that type of thing are the best thing to spread in this day and age.

don't sell yourself short , anyone can learn it if they take the time. for general use its really not anything hard at all. my fiancee didn't even know how to work windows well when we got together 10 years ago couldn't even copy/paste , now hes doing fine in linux for daily use and gaming

additionally most browsers are linux friendly for mail and whatever . libreoffice is a servicable office replacement overall and as long as you pick a distro that has a gui updater it should be smoooth .i game so i opted for nobara but for basic use fedora would be fine and it has immutable options

you could download an old win10 iso and burn it to a disk or toss it on a usb ( theres tutorials out there) ,.. but i'll say if your father doesn't do anything particularly demanding linux still Could be viable , cinnamon and kde (desktop enviroments) are pretty windows default looking vs gnome

plenty of open source stuff is great so comments like this sorta does a diservice to alot of ppl. that said i'll agree on poor management sadly , mainly from tho top and how they want to force AI into everything while cutting literal thousands of jobs

switched to linux in may of last yr ,.. no regrets , almost all my gripes with win11 were 'fixed' by not using it and while it was/is a learning curve its worth it imo.

i love the guys but i can totally understand your viewpoint. they're in a tricky position i guess i'd say . as an 'outlet' of sorts from a bygone era i think they feel compelled to cover certain games , and i can understand it for business but it sucks n i rather they just not feel the need
