And I'm very cautious about stacking too much magical items and effects on a boss to the point they're unkillable and drag the fight too long.

5e doesn't give us many tools to boost a boss. My players consistently roll over 20 on their attacks at Level 9. So, boosting AC to 22 or 25 doesn't offer much. Legendary Resistances are a good addition, but a lot of players find that mechanic annoying.

I really hate this timeline.
