There are far more variables that impact a trains speed on a track than a car on a highway, so it isn’t really exactly that easy to compare it. Trains go faster through suburbs anyways, but poor infrastructure affects them (single track line, waiting for connections bc lines won’t intersect again)

Faster than highway speed is a crazy suggestion through suburbs and considering the closeness of stations, it wouldn’t even be able to be implemented in a way that is largely impactful

I’m in the opposite situation, inter-suburb travel is mostly great (except rurally), in fact I could just walk to three stations! But getting into the city is a hassle. Despite the fact the rail takes the same route (roughly) of cars entering the city, the cars are always about 40 minutes faster.
