Two important topics for people to learn about (imo) right now are:
1. TransGENIC mice (maybe using the woolly mammoth mouse as an example?)
2. mRNA vaccines

So even though this year’s BHM feels different than ones of the past, Bianca and the Marlin lab helped me find strength in it anyways. ✨

I’m have a drive to prove others wrong: DEI does NOT exclude merit. I am an incredible scientist at one of the best Institutes in the world due to my training and merit. I’m lucky enough to work in a space that sees my identity as something that propels our work from sufficient to spectacular.

It struck me that I haven’t really slowed down to appreciate the statistics I hold as the first Black ___ (at this point, I’ve lost track of all the accolades I can claim) and being reminded that my future eventually becomes part of greater history stirred something inside me.

it just felt like February. That is, until this week’s lab meeting when Black History Month was acknowledged by my PI, Dr. Bianca Jones Marlin @bjmarlin.bsky.social. She pointed out that as members of the first lab to have a Black PI in our department, all of us are part of Black History.
