It's a give and take. Mistborn was written quite well before Stormlight Archive and Brandon is a but less tenured as an author, while still not bad by any means of the word, his writing style has developed a bit since those days.

At his own admission he said that the first three Mistborn books were written with grim stylings (as was the style at the time apparently) but nowadays prefers to allude and skirt with dark topics, but not wade into it too much.
