A nerd of many different disciplines. Most of them sexual. Seriously. I have a degree and everything. Currently studying the culture of sexual expression and behavior in gaming.

The most troublesome of strumpets.
Recent legislative pushes in Texas and the Trump administration being in office means that I'm going to be losing gender-affirming care. Things are only going to get worse for trans people in the coming year.

And that means it's time to leave the country. 😢

I had a thought. And I followed the train of thought, writing down a bunch of words that sound smart. They come together in a cogent argument and I feel a moment of pride.

Then I realize I just summarized another researcher and added an analogy about not being able to see my own nose. 🤦

If the GOP is going to hang slavery around the necks of the Democrats, then I think it's time we start putting up billboards about how Karl Marx was a massive fan of Lincoln and supported the Republican party.

The GOP: OG Marxists.

It's a liberating feeling when you find your niche in academia. It also comes with a host of other frustrations such as "How has this not been asked before?" and "Oh dear sweet fuck do I really want to go through this IRB process?".

Semiotics is so much more enjoyable when someone's ideal type for me is a gorgeous bunny girl.

I am stuck in a morass of readings on ethnomethodological approaches to non-human actors and my inner Sociologist is screaming from the abuse.

That moment when you discover your committee chair and advisor is a fountain pen collector. Finally, I can put all the esoteric knowledge I picked up from @samferguson.bsky.social to use!

I was called a "Classically-Trained Slut" today and obviously that's going on my business cards.

Lord give me the strength to resist this temptation.

Transferring to an endocrinologist outside of the VA using my private insurance. There's been no announcement that the VA will stop gender-affirming care but that's just a given at this point. Now I don't feel bad about paying for insurance that I never use.

Ah yes, national ownership of corporations. How capitalist of you.
TikTok goes dark for US users; Trump signals intervention
Even if temporary, the unprecedented shutdown of TikTok will have an impact on U.S.-China relations, domestic politics, the social-media marketplace and millions of Americans who depend on the app.

Roku pushed a pop-up ad over HDMI to my AppleTV and that radicalized me. It took an entire day to reconfigure my network to communicate through the Pi-hole, and it is worth it.

Fuck corporations that engage in predatory advertising practices. Also fuck AT&T for hard locking DNS on their router.

I never appreciated how much my parents spent on my first computer when I was a teen until I saw the exact model on a retro PC YouTube channel retailing the same year for $2,000-ish.

I do not feel bad that the first thing I did was rip it open and start upgrading it.

One of the most frustrating experiences in academia so far is that when I say I study sexuality, people automatically assume I mean sex and gender expression because I am a trans-woman.

I do not study sex and gender. I study sexual behavior. The process of having sex. Baby making. This is not hard.

My current paper went off the rails the moment I brought up Schopenhauer.

Dune: Prophecy wholeheartedly embraced Brian Herbert's Butlerian Jihad and, y'know, as much as people like to drag on the prequel books, I'm here for it. They were an entertaining read.

And you can't deny that opening with a battle against cymeks doesn't go hard.

"It's almost time for the fall break."

Yay!

"I want you to read all of Bourdieu's Distinction over the break and be prepared to discuss it afterward."

...fuck.

It's a good book, but it's dense. Frustratingly so.

Part of my graduate degree is creating a public-facing digital media project connected to my research.

Problem: my research is sexual.

Personally I don't have a problem with hanging it all out there. There's nothing shameful about sex. But my research participants might have some qualms.

My undergraduate and professional master's did not prepare me for the amount of books that a research degree would require. 31 books so far in the past few months and another one seems to get added to the list of books I've yet to buy every few days.

I am cognizant of the fact that websites go down all the time. However, that the graduate school application portal is down right when I should be hearing about my doctoral application is nerve wracking.

I just spent 10 minutes trying to remember how to update a program using a Linux terminal.

Yes, it's been years since I did IT work or messed with Linux, but still. I have brought shame on my inner sysadmin.

Voting accomplished. First time I've been voter #1. Shortest ballot too. Just mayor and alderman.
