we just received our copy of Hustler's 50th anniversary hardback retrospective book.

back in 1979, #DærickGrössSr did some political artwork for the magazine. you can see it on pages 102-103. it's NSFW enough we won't post it here (the whole book is VERY Hustler).

indeed! this is the very essence of our most recent #Trumpy strip...

(inspired by Josh's Bat, thought i'd share another...)

this is a book that i (Dærick) have had since i was a kid and still reference from time to time today (i still have my *heavily* used hardback first edition).

some of you are too young to have experienced Marvel's experimental foray into digital comics back in the late 1990s, known as CyberComics. Dærick Gröss Sr was one of the primary artists working on the product line. some really great pieces that most people haven't seen before.

splash page from a 1990s Marvel CyberComic featuring Spider-Man and the Hulk, by Dærick Gröss Sr. this image is a very tightly drawn pencil piece on comic book illustration board. the mrgins have markings and text to denote the dimensions and pertinent notations for the publisher. the art itself is a single large image in the center of the board depicting Hulk leaping across the city high above the rooftops with Spider-Man hanging on his back over his shoulders. the point of view is from above looking down, we can see the cityscape of buildings all from above behind the figures, the densely packed city of New York. the artwork is very detailed as it was for Marvel's early digital comics product. the raw pencils were scanned in and acted as the finished "inks" so the color and letters could be added directly to the scanned art.

oh, us? just revisiting some old Golden Age stuff. just plain old comic book geekery here. nothing deeper.

why do you ask?

this one blew my (Dærick's) mind when it first came out. i was a massive fan of the toys and this Mantlo/Golden treasure changed the course of my life.

reminds us of a time when Dærick Sr was doing some work with Chaos! on some Vampirella cross-overs and did this splendid pinup of her (around 2000, give or take). color pencils on (probably) Canson paper.
