I get it. If you don't want to risk simply glazing it & waiting to see, consider using it as a test piece. Do you have any glazes you would like to test? Combos/Techniques? Bisque that doesn't meet your standards are GREAT tools. You learn from disappointment and you can learn more w/glaze tests.

Let me know how things go please.

Thank you! I don't throw any more due to a neck injury. I have fallen on love with sculptural makes. Mostly for the Littles, and our woodland creatures.

A house [63 lbs of clay] I made from primarily hard slabs. Installed outdoors with solar lights glowing through windows and doors.

Oh I wish you ALL the fun and kiln juju! Hard slabs are so great for hand-built everythings.

Stunning

Just remember, throwing isn't EVERYTHING. There's nothing you can't make via handholding methods. So do what you love. One great thing about ceramics is that you can try it all!

Do you throw? If so, you may want to add some bentonite to your reclaim. Just a touch, like I may add four heaping tablespoons to a 5 gallon bucket holding maybe 3 gallons of porridge thick reclaim. It's the super fine portion of clay that seems to be lost most easily while reclaiming.

I hope it helps! I have also worried about laying plates upright, blocking the kiln elements. It seems to me it would make them heat up so quickly, instead of balanced in the atmosphere of the kiln. It all works out in the end, but perhaps it is shocking to the plate?

I just made a lg sculptural house with 62 lbs of clay. Silica sand allows it to expand & contract w/o tension on the base.
