How can we work with what we already have? What alternative #materials and #construction methods are available? How can we #design #buildings and #urban spaces in a way that is socially equitable?

Many thanks to @journal-a.com for the opportunity to share my thoughts and career on their blog! In my post, I talk about my artistic approach, the influence of architecture on my work and how we can use existing space and materials in a more sustainable way.

Villa Viva - A house that builds wells. The guesthouse VILLA VIVA in Hamburg supports the social projects of Viva con Agua with the vision WATER FOR ALL.
There is art to discover everywhere in the house. You can find my contribution in the red stairwell / 5th floor.

This mural was painted in the Karl Schneider house during the renovation phase. Just as the picture was temporarily in this place, so was the structural condition. Today, this room is the roof terrace, which has been restored to its original state.

The mural reference to the converted space. A former joinery was first used as a storage area and now as a space for art projects. Such examples show the spatial potential in existing buildings that is just waiting to be activated.

The materials come from a dismantled roof truss and flooring remnants. The reference to the shape and color of Piece No. 97 creates a play with scaling and perception. What changes by stepping into the space? What changes through different perspectives?

The material for the art objects comes from building sites or craft businesses. It’s amazing what has to be disposed of. Processing in an art object is just one way in which the material can be used. But more needs to happen. What could create incentives to pass on material?

The colors and shapes of the murals relate to the surrounding buildings.

Despite the german monument protection and the climate crisis, Hamburg's City-Hof high-rises were not renovated, but demolished to make way for a new building. The colors and shapes of the City-Hof high-rises are the inspiration for the mural on this nearby high-rise.
