Bought a nice new LP of King Crimson's album Beat today. Apart from a live performance on YouTube of Waiting Man I haven't heard any of this before. Very much enjoying it, especially the weirder tracks. Unbelievable rhythmic feel from this band in the poppier/post-minimalist numbers too.

People often ask me how on Earth I can imagine all the instruments of an orchestra at once; but today I threaded a sewing machine for the first time and let me tell you, that was a level of complexity I have not experienced in a long time

We (@louisewelsh00.bsky.social and I) regularly murder people in our operas, with the closest to horror probably Anthropocene - sort of a scifi-horror-thriller stuartmacrae.com/anthropocene

It's quite enjoyable and encouraging seeing nice people I used to see on twitter (but who seem to have stopped posting there years ago) giving @bsky.app a try. Long may it continue!

Finally getting properly stuck into this book by Tim Clarkson - I don't like the front cover much but the contents are riveting!

Last day of hols from teaching, and I'm finally dipping into the Carmina Gadelica. These two poems, one an 'invocation', one a 'grace' seem to be different versions of the same text: the first more grounded, the second more abstract in its imagery.

Finally getting round to giving this place another try - so here's an exciting picture of my New Year steak pie (now long gone 🤤)
