During WW2, Noel Cowerd wrote "London Pride" to the tune of the German national anthem but with a jaunty rhythm.
I always liked the tune, never quite knew why until I learned that.

As a licensed pedant I'm obliged to point out that the phrase "substitute for" (instead of e.g. "substitute with") makes the complaint mean exactly opposite of what I presume was intended. Not clear whether it's a quote or Daily Fail laziness (see also the quotemarks around 'virtue-signally').

As in apartheid-era South Africa, where the signs designating park benches, train carriages etc. as "Whites only" or "Non-whites only" were often worded as "Europeans only" and "Non-Europeans only". Most of the white rulers had never been to Europe.

When sitting down after a long stand (!) I often say an appreciative "Sitting down!"... in the exact style you describe.

"One-hit wonder physicist" doesn't sound right, although more accurate.

The question should have been - and still should be - "How do we counter the DM's inevitable disapproval?"

"This little transphobic rant by Hadley Freeman" at the top of what I'm looking at. Your feed might be different.

How are you with lottery numbers?

Until the Industrial Revolution, that's a lot like Europeans did. Bring in harvest, eat what won't keep, sleep, mid-winter festival to check it's happening and eat what's stored, back to sleep until spring and planting.

That explains your lagoonbrious expression.

Fabulous work.

And due to my habit of reading the Alt before zooming and panning, Phew! The 4th alt has a typo that's not (as it claims) on the illustration.
PHEW!!

You're not wrong. And I wasn't even anxious!

This needs to be filmed.

It said exactly what I thought when I first read about the show two or three years ago.

(I *do* like jokes, it's what I'm mostly here for. I don't like lies, which accounts for the rest)

Back in the 1970s there were deliberately misspelled ads in the Tube for the Locations Of Offices Bureau (tldr, you could move to peaceful Croydon). Some of them are still in my vocabulary (thanks to the sercetrarcies who typed them 😉).

Fnigers and thmubs are going right in there.

Not just celebrities. The concept of this show is deeply unsettling.

Anyone who doesn't read the AltText is missing a good giggle.

At my last company (last = final, before retirement 😀 ), the fire officer regularly had to warn everyone to put their bloody shoes on. Probably 20 out of ~150 would smile and say yes and carry on wandering about the office in socks or barefoot.

Before you ask - high-end software developers.

Botany and entomology would be immeasurably poorer fields without the work of all those clergymen with time on their hands.

There's half a line in this that's disappointing because it jars and adds nothing to the story.

Half a line in a book this size has to be forgivable.

False-flag distraction again. And when it doesn't work, who will he sacrifice next? I can't decide between Don Jr, Eric, and Melanoma (Phoeble is safe, obvs, and I don't think he knows who the other two are).
