Fairly sure it's the basis for the book, though two things worth noting: he defended typed theses (whereas Ramnoux had it pre-published for the defence), and in Axelos's case there was a gap between thesis and book (1959-62). So it's possible it is different. Axelos's archive is at the ENS...

Looking for something else, discovered that French philosophy doctoral defences were regularly listed in Les Études philosophiques. Here's Foucault's, which doesn't tell us anything we didn't know from Didier Eribon's biography, but was still interesting to see.
